The Fox and Hounds Pub in Great Wolford, Warwickshire, is at risk of being closed forever.
The Save the Fox & Hounds Campaign is working to keep this much-loved Cotswolds gem in its place at the heart of the community. Once a successful destination pub with fabulous food and a B and B, it can again be a thriving business.
The Fox and Hounds is in a beautiful North Cotswold village in a conservation area (AONB) . This wonderful pub dates back to the 17th century and was an award-winning example of a rural business at its best. The Fox & Hounds was a magnet for locals as well as a destination pub for those from miles away. This historic inn, with its old beams and fireplace, was the beating heart of the surrounding village communities. Update 15th September 2025: The owners have permission to convert the pub into two houses UNLESS we win our case in court. See below.
THE DATE FOR A STATUTORY REVIEW AT THE HIGH COURT IS TUESDAY 18TH NOVEMBER 2025
The Fox and Hounds owners’ Planning Appeal (on their 3rd planning application) was allowed by the Planning Inspectorate in December 2024. This means the owners have permission to convert the pub to a residential large house. The Campaign applied for a legal Statutory Review and a judge has agreed there is a case to answer.
This process is similar to a Judicial Review and is held by a judge at the High Court. If we win, the judge will quash the Planning Inspectorate’s Decision; if we lose, the Planning Inspectorate’s Decision will stand. (It is likely to be January 2026 before we are informed of the judge’s decision.)
The date for the High Court hearing is Tuesday 18th November 2025
It is a one-day hearing, but we will not know the start time until the day before.
We would love to have a really good turnout at the Public Gallery at the High Court in London. Your strong attendance at the Councillors’ application hearings in Stratford upon Avon in the past was wonderful – and very valuable – as it showed the extent of public concern.
